Stretchmarks & Scars
Stretchmarks
Stretch marks are a common problem faced by both men and women. It is estimated that close to 90% of women have stretch marks, which occur normally as a result of puberty, pregnancy, hormonal changes and weight gain. Some skin types are more susceptible to stretch marks than others and for some patients the marks can be quite noticeable as raised white or red lines found on the arms, stomach, thighs or breast area.
Scars - Surgical, traumatic and acne
A scar is a patch or line of tissue that remains after a wound has healed. When a wound occurs and there is a break in some of the tissue in the body, the body heals it by producing more of a protein called collagen.
Scars gradually become smoother and softer and will fade but it is unlikely they will ever disappear and depending on the severity and location of them can cause distress if unsightly or very visible.
FDA clearance for the effective treatment of stretchmarks and scars
Until now there were few options for stretch mark treatments, but our fractional non-ablative skin resurfacing technology has just been cleared by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for effective results in the removal of stretchmarks and scars. Ongoing clinical studies have shown that patients treated achieved an average improvement of between 51% and 75% in the appearance of their Stretch marks (Striae) or Scars.
The treatment is suitable for most skin types, and using fractional laser technology will permanently reduce the appearance of the stretch mark.
